Final 2012 Vote Tally Provides President Obama With A Convincing Victory!

The final vote tally is in and the President's victory is significantly stronger than it first appeared on election night. Barack Obama is the first president in 56 years to garner at least 51% of the popular vote in two consecutive elections. President Obama received 65.9 million votes and Mitt Romney received 60.9 million votes. In percentage terms that works out to 51.1% for Obama versus 47.2% for Romney. The 47% figure is kind of ironic for Mitt Romney because of the infamous 47% video which played a major role in the 2012 Presidential election.

The last President to achieve this feat was Dwight D. Eisenhower (1952 and 1956). There were a number of pundits who labeled the 2012 election as close and therefore did not provide President Obama with a mandate. I argue that his victory margin of 5 million votes during a period of 7.8% unemployment was a VERY convincing win. It was not really that close in the electoral college or the popular vote. It's a tough pill for the GOP to swallow, but they need to come to terms with the fact that their candidate and their policies were soundly rejected by a solid majority of voters.

Politifact's "Lie of the Year" is Romney's False Jeep Ad

Politifact has revealed their "Lie of the Year" for 2012. Not surprisingly, they selected Mitt Romney's Jeep ad that he ran in Ohio in the closing weeks of the 2012 Presidential campaign. Romney made the false claim that Jeep was planning to move U.S. JOBS to China during a speech in Defiance, Ohio on October 25th. His campaign then went on to produce a series of radio and television ads that doubled-down on the falsehood despite an outcry from numerous media outlets and fact-checking organizations. Most political observers concluded that the ad backfired badly and some believe it may may been responsible for his electoral loss in the state of the Ohio.

I examine this incident in more detail in my eBook Why Romney Lost The 2012 Election:

Mitt Romney Working At Panera Bread Post-Election?

Romney baking a delicious loaf of honey-wheat bread.
I was more than a little surprised to see this picture of Mitt Romney in my local Panera Bread location here in Pensacola, Florida. It is a clear indication that Romney knew before November 6th that he was likely to lose the Presidential election. Even so, I expected him to go on the speaking circuit or return to Bain Capital after losing the election. As much as I dislike Mitt Romney, I must admit that I actually felt a little sorry for him after I saw a picture of the former Presidential hopeful baking bread. I will try to get a photo of Romney at work in the coming days. Check back for updates.

GOP Flooding Voters With Right-Wing Propaganda Prior To Election

Anti-Obama Mailers Received By Florida Voter in ONE Day!
Here is a real-world personal example of how much "dark money" is being spent by the GOP here in Florida. My parents live in Santa Rosa County Florida which is located near Pensacola Beach in the Florida panhandle. They have been receiving several robo-calls every day from Mitt Romney, Crossroads GPS (Karl Rove’s Super PAC), etc. In addition, they receive at least one anti-Obama mailer every day. Yesterday they received three robo-calls and four mailers. That’s SEVEN republican contacts in one day! Needless to say, each and every mailer and phone call is chocked full of inaccuracies and right-wing propaganda. I hate to inform these merchants of misinformation that my parents waited in line for over an hour to cast their ballot for President Barack Obama. It is worth noting that my father is a lifelong republican. The extremists that came to prominence in 2008 were just too much for him to take and this will be his second time voting for Barack Obama. The image above shows what my parents received in the mail yesterday.
